General Manager
Rose Bowl Riders (RBR) seeks an experienced and collaborative General Manager to oversee
daily operations and long-term strategic management of its historic equestrian facility in
Pasadena. This executive leadership role combines hands-on facility oversight with financial
management, risk mitigation, and close partnership with the Board of Directors.
The General Manager reports to the Board President (or designee), provides monthly
operational reports, and presents an annual strategic performance report with
recommendations for growth and sustainability.
Position Summary
The General Manager leads all aspects of facility operations, ensuring exceptional horse care,
operational excellence, financial stewardship, and a safe, professional environment for
members, trainers, staff, and visitors.
The role requires strong organizational leadership, equine expertise, and the ability to
coordinate multiple stakeholders and committees.
Core Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy
• Oversee facility operations and implement Board-approved policies.
• Develop and execute strategic and financial plans in collaboration with the Board.
• Provide regular operational and annual performance reporting.
• Serve as primary liaison between on-site management and Board committees.
Horse Care & Facility Operations
• Ensure high standards of daily horse care, stall maintenance, and health oversight.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-managed barns, arenas, and common areas.
• Coordinate veterinary programs and maintain accurate health and feed records.
• Oversee arena maintenance, manure management, trailer parking, and storage logistics.
Staff & Team Management
• Supervise and schedule barn and maintenance staff.
• Train employees on safety protocols and RBR standards.
• Promote accountability and a professional, respectful workplace culture.
Safety & Risk Management
• Enforce safety policies and conduct regular facility inspections.
• Maintain incident reporting procedures and ensure insurance compliance.
• Oversee waivers and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
• Partner with the Treasurer to monitor financial procedures and recommend efficiencies.
• Oversee procurement of feed and supplies.
• Maintain organized operational records.
• Support lease coordination and vendor management.
Committee & Event Coordination
• Provide leadership and coordination across operational committees and department
heads.
• Prepare facilities for shows, clinics, and public programs.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, including tractors, arena drags, and irrigation
systems.
Qualifications
Experience
• 7–10+ years of equine facility management experience, including supervisory
leadership.
• Experience managing boarding facilities (30+ horses preferred).
• Nonprofit or board-level experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working with municipalities or leased public land is a plus.
Skills
• Advanced equine health and barn management knowledge.
• Strong financial literacy and budgeting capability.
• Proven leadership, conflict resolution, and strategic planning skills.
• Familiarity with insurance compliance and risk management.
• Excellent written communication and organizational abilities.
Education (Preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science, Agricultural Business, Business Management, or a related
field, or equivalent experience.
